51m Nigerians have enrolled for NIN, others risk 14 years imprisonment - Pantami

Minister of communications and digital economy, Ali Isa Pantami has revealed the total number of Nigerians who have registered for their national identification number (NIN).


According to Pantami who announced the figure at a statehouse press briefing on Thursday, 51million Nigerians have successfully enrolled for NIN.

This figure, he said, was as of March 31, 2021.

This is out of the 189 million registered subscriber identification module (SIM) cards in the country, as claimed by the Minister,

Pantami issued a stern warning that those yet to obtain their NIN risk 7 or 14 years imprisonment as stipulated by the Nigerian constitution.

Pantami said while owning a SIM card is optional, the NIN is mandatory as a lot of transactions are not supposed to be carried out without NIN.

The deadline for enrollment has now been extended to April 6, 2021.
