Recruitment Update: Gov Fayemi suspends ongoing recruitment of teachers

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has ordered the immediate refund of money paid in the ongoing recruitment exercise by successful applicants.

The recruitment exercise, conducted by the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has about100 candidates who are affected by this directive.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and report from the TESCOM chairman, Mr Babatunde Abegunde, the directive was due to the commitment of the governor to the general welfare of the people of Ekiti state.

He added that this was also necessary because there is no need to make the recruitment process unbearable for the new entrants coming into the public service.

He also stated that the money to be refunded are those paid by entrants in the procurement of the Teaching Service Manual, Service Record and Job Cards among others.

According to Mr Babatunde, the process of appointing the first batch of 400 teachers started in October, 2019 and was concluded in November, 2020.

He added that the process for recruiting the second batch of 100 teachers commenced immediately after the first set of appointees were posted to schools with the invitation of shortlisted candidates for documentation.

He, however, assured the general public that the recruitment exercise will continue once there is a significant improvement in the state's finances in order to accommodate new entrants into its workforce.
